श्रुत्वा शिववचो नाहं किमपि प्रणतानना ॥ सती शोकविषण्णा सा तस्थौ तत्र समीपतः ॥ ४६ ॥
On hearing Śiva’s words she bent her head as a mark of respect but did not say anything. Agitated with grief she stood aghast.
english translation
zrutvA zivavaco nAhaM kimapi praNatAnanA ॥ satI zokaviSaNNA sA tasthau tatra samIpataH ॥ 46 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ ध्यात्वा महेशस्तु बुबोध चरितं हृदा ॥ दक्षजाया महायोगी नानालीला विशारदः ॥ ४७ ॥
On meditating for a while, Śiva, the great Yogin, adept in diverse divine sports, could understand everything about Śatī, the daughter of Dakṣa.
english translation
atha dhyAtvA mahezastu bubodha caritaM hRdA ॥ dakSajAyA mahAyogI nAnAlIlA vizAradaH ॥ 47 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसस्मार स्वपणं पूर्वं यत्कृतं हरिकोपतः ॥ तत्प्रार्थितोथ रुद्रोसौ मर्यादा प्रतिपालकः ॥ ४८ ॥
He (Rudra/Shiva) remembered the earlier incident in the dream, which had occurred due to Hari’s (Vishnu’s) anger. Then, having been prayed to, Rudra became the upholder of righteousness and discipline.
english translation
sasmAra svapaNaM pUrvaM yatkRtaM harikopataH ॥ tatprArthitotha rudrosau maryAdA pratipAlakaH ॥ 48 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविषादोभूत्प्रभोस्तत्र मनस्येवमुवाच ह ॥ धर्मवक्ता धर्मकर्त्ता धर्मावनकरस्सदा ॥ ४९ ॥
At that moment, a feeling of sorrow (viṣāda) arose in the mind of the Lord. He thought to Himself: “I am always the speaker of dharma, the performer of dharma, and the protector of dharma.”

viSAdobhUtprabhostatra manasyevamuvAca ha ॥ dharmavaktA dharmakarttA dharmAvanakarassadA ॥ 49 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशिव उवाच ॥ कुर्यां चेद्दक्षजायां हि स्नेहं पूर्वं यथा महान् ॥ नश्येन्मम पणः शुद्धो लोकलीलानुसारिणः ॥ 2-2-25-५० ॥
Śiva said: If I were to maintain my love towards Satī at the level as before, my promise will be broken—even if I follow the conventions of the world.
english translation
ziva uvAca ॥ kuryAM ceddakSajAyAM hi snehaM pUrvaM yathA mahAn ॥ nazyenmama paNaH zuddho lokalIlAnusAriNaH ॥ 2-2-25-50 ॥
