रुद्र उवाच ॥ किमेतद्विहितं पाप त्वया कर्म विगर्हितम् ॥ विवाहे मम कांताया वक्त्रं दृष्टं न रागतः ॥ ३१ ॥

Śiva said: “O sinful wretch, what a despicable mess you have perpetrated? At the time of her marriage you have passionately gazed at the face of my beloved.

rudra uvAca ॥ kimetadvihitaM pApa tvayA karma vigarhitam ॥ vivAhe mama kAMtAyA vaktraM dRSTaM na rAgataH ॥ 31 ॥

त्वं वेत्सि शंकरेणैतत्कर्म ज्ञातं न किंचन ॥ त्रैलोक्येपि न मेऽज्ञातं गूढं तस्मात्कथं विधे ॥ ३२ ॥

You think that this blunder has not been known by me at all. There is nothing that is unknown to me in the three worlds. O Brahman, how can it then remain hidden?

tvaM vetsi zaMkareNaitatkarma jJAtaM na kiMcana ॥ trailokyepi na me'jJAtaM gUDhaM tasmAtkathaM vidhe ॥ 32 ॥

यत्किंचित्त्रिषु लोकेषु जंगमं स्थावरं तथा ॥ तस्याहं मध्यगो मूढ तैलं यद्वत्तिलांति कम् ॥ ३३ ॥

O foolish fellow, just as the oil is latent in the gingelly seed so also I am present within everything in the three worlds whether mobile or immobile.

english translation

yatkiMcittriSu lokeSu jaMgamaM sthAvaraM tathA ॥ tasyAhaM madhyago mUDha tailaM yadvattilAMti kam ॥ 33 ॥

ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इत्युक्त्वा प्रिय विष्णुर्मां तदा विष्णुवचः स्मरन् ॥ इयेष हंतुं ब्रह्माणं शूलमुद्यम्य शंकरः ॥ ३४ ॥

Brahmā said: Saying thus, and remembering the words of Viṣṇu, Śiva who dearly loved Viṣṇu lifted His trident and wished to kill me.

brahmovAca ॥ ityuktvA priya viSNurmAM tadA viSNuvacaH smaran ॥ iyeSa haMtuM brahmANaM zUlamudyamya zaMkaraH ॥ 34 ॥

शभुंनोद्यमिते शूले मां च हंतुं द्विजोत्तम ॥ मरीचिप्रमुखास्ते वै हाहाकारं च चक्रिरे ॥ ३५ ॥

O excellent brahmin, when the trident was lifted up by Him to kill me, Marīci and others raised a hue and cry.
