दक्ष उवाच ॥ तवात्रागमने हेतुः कः प्रवेशे स सृष्टिकृत् ॥ ममोपरि सुप्रसादं कृत्वाचक्ष्व जगद्गुरो ॥५६॥
Dakṣa said: O creator, preceptor of the universe, be kind and tell me the purpose of your visit to me?
english translation
dakSa uvAca ॥ tavAtrAgamane hetuH kaH praveze sa sRSTikRt ॥ mamopari suprasAdaM kRtvAcakSva jagadguro ॥56॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुत्रस्नेहात्कार्यवशादथ वा लोककारक॥ ममाश्रमं समायातो हृष्टस्य तव दर्शनात्॥५७॥
O creator of worlds, is your visit prompted by your love for your son or for any special task that you have come to my hermitage? I am delighted on seeing you.
english translation
putrasnehAtkAryavazAdatha vA lokakAraka॥ mamAzramaM samAyAto hRSTasya tava darzanAt॥57॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इति पृष्टस्स्वपुत्रेण दक्षेण मुनिसत्तम ॥ विहसन्नब्रुवं वाक्यं मोदयंस्तं प्रजापतिम् ॥ ५८ ॥
Brahmā said: O excellent sage, being asked thus by my son Dakṣa, I spoke with a smile thereby delighting Dakṣa, the lord of the subjects.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ iti pRSTassvaputreNa dakSeNa munisattama ॥ vihasannabruvaM vAkyaM modayaMstaM prajApatim ॥ 58 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptब्रह्मोवाच ॥ शृणु दक्ष यदर्थं त्वत्समीपमहमागतः ॥ त्वत्तोकस्य हितं मेपि भवतोपि तदीप्सितम् ॥५९ ॥
Brahmā said: O Dakṣa, listen. I shall tell you why I have come here. The wholesome benefit of your progeny is what I desire and what you must also desire.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ zRNu dakSa yadarthaM tvatsamIpamahamAgataH ॥ tvattokasya hitaM mepi bhavatopi tadIpsitam ॥59 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतव पुत्री समाराध्य महादेवं जगत्पतिम् ॥ यो वरः प्रार्थितस्तस्य समयोयमुपागतः ॥ 2-2-17-६० ॥
Your daughter has propitiated Śiva, the lord of the universe and has secured a boon. The opportune moment for the same has arrived now.

tava putrI samArAdhya mahAdevaM jagatpatim ॥ yo varaH prArthitastasya samayoyamupAgataH ॥ 2-2-17-60 ॥
