यथा पद्मालया विष्णोस्सावित्री च यथा मम ॥ तथा सहचरीं शंभो कांतां गृह्णीष्व संप्रति ॥ २६ ॥
O Śiva, accept a beloved wife as a life companion in the same manner as Viṣṇu has taken the Goddess of the lotus (Lakṣmī) and I have taken the goddess of speech.
english translation
ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इति श्रुत्वा वचो मे हि ब्रह्मणः पुरतो हरेः ॥ स मां जगाद लोकेशः स्मेराननमुखो हरः ॥२७॥
Brahmā said: On hearing these words of mine—of Brahmā—in the presence of Viṣṇu, Śiva, the lord of worlds spoke to me with his face beaming with a smile.
english translation
ईश्वर उवाच ॥ हे ब्रह्मन् हे हरे मे हि युवां प्रियतरौ सदा ॥ दृष्ट्वा त्वां च ममानंदो भवत्यतितरां खलु ॥ २८ ॥
Śiva said: O Brahmā, O Viṣṇu, both of you are always dear to me. On seeing you both, my delight is enhanced indeed.
english translation
युवां सुरविशिष्टौ हि त्रिभव स्वामिनौ किल ॥ कथनं वां गरिष्ठेति भवकार्यरतात्मनोः ॥२९॥
You two are the best among the devas. You are the masters of three worlds. What you say is indeed weighty since you two are engaged in Śiva’s work.
english translation
उचितं न सुरश्रेष्ठौ विवाहकरणं मम ॥ तपोरतविरक्तस्य सदा विदितयोगिनः ॥ 2-2-16-३० ॥
O best of Devas, it is not proper for me to marry as I am detached from the world and engaged in penance. I always practise Yoga.
