भक्ताधीनौ च तौ तात सुविज्ञेयौ शिवाशिवौ ॥ स्वेच्छया सगुणौ जातौ परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणौ ॥ ४६॥
O dear, Śivā and Śiva are subservient to their devotees. This must be realised. Both of them being intrinsically the supreme Brahman can readily assume attributive form out of their own free will.
english translation
ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ ॥ इत्युक्त्वा तत्क्षणं मेशश्शिवं सस्मार स्वप्रभुम् ॥ कृपया तस्य संप्राप्य ज्ञानमूचे च मां ततः ॥ ४७ ॥
Brahmā said: After saying so, the lord of Lakṣmī thought upon his lord Śiva. Thanks to His favour, he received the real knowledge and spoke to me again.
english translation
विष्णुरुवाच ॥ विधे स्मर पुरोक्तं यद्वचनं शंकरेण च ॥ प्रार्थितेन यदावाभ्यामुत्पन्नाभ्यां तदिच्छया ॥ ४८ ॥
Viṣṇu said: O Brahmā remember the words spoken by Śiva formerly when requested, due to His own will, by us at the time of our nativity.
english translation
विस्मृतं तव तत्सर्वं धन्या या शांभवी परा ॥ तया संमोहितं सर्वं दुर्विज्ञेया शिवं विना ॥ ४९ ॥
Everything has been forgotten by you. Blessed indeed is the great illusion of Śiva which deludes everything. It is incomprehensible to all except Śiva.
english translation
यदा हि सगुणो जातस्स्वेच्छया निर्गुणश्शिवः ॥ मामुत्पाद्य ततस्त्वां च स्वशक्त्या सुविहारकृत् ॥ 2-2-10-५० ॥
When Śiva devoid of attributes became, out of His own accord, full of attributes, He created me first and then you with His own power in the course of His divine sport. The lord Śiva assigned to you the work of creation.
