पूर्ववत् स्वप्रभावं च चक्रे मनसिजस्तदा ॥ बहूपायं स हि मधुर्विविधां बुद्धिमावहन् ॥ ५६ ॥
Kāma employed all his wiles as before. Vasanta too employed various means racking his brain in diverse ways.

उपायं स चकाराति तत्र मारगणोऽपि च ॥ मोहोभवन्न वै शंभोरपि कश्चित्परात्मनः ॥ ५७ ॥
He used many tactics. His troops too tried their best. But Śiva, the Great Soul, was not afflicted the least.

निवृत्त्य पुनरायातो मम स्थानं स्मरस्तदा ॥ आसीन्मारगणोऽगर्वोऽहर्षो मेपि पुरस्थितः ॥ ५८ ॥
Kāma then returned to my abode. I had great pride in his troops but now distress and discomfit stood facing me.
english translation
कामः प्रोवाच मां तात प्रणम्य च निरुत्सवः ॥ स्थित्वा मम पुरोऽगर्वो मारैश्च मधुना तदा ॥५९॥
O dear, bowing to me with despair and dejection while standing before me without pride and arrogance, along with his troops and Vasanta, Kāma spoke to me in these words.

कृतं पूर्वादधिकतः कर्म तन्मोहने विधे ॥ नाभवत्तस्य मोहोपि कश्चिद्ध्यानरतात्मनः ॥ 2-2-9-६० ॥
O Brahmā, more efforts were put by us to enthral Him, but they all went in vain as He was absorbed in deep meditation.
