ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ तस्मिन् गते सानुचरे शिवस्थानं च मन्मथे ॥ चरित्रमभवच्चित्रं तच्छृणुष्व मुनीश्वर ॥ १ ॥
Brahmā said: O great sage, when Kāma went to Śiva’s abode along with his attendants an adversely surprising incident occurred to which listen please.
english translation
brahmovAca ॥ tasmin gate sAnucare zivasthAnaM ca manmathe ॥ caritramabhavaccitraM tacchRNuSva munIzvara ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगत्वा तत्र महावीरो मन्मथो मोहकारकः ॥ स्वप्रभावं ततानाशु मोहयामास प्राणिनः॥२॥
After going there, the heroic Kāma competent to enchant others spread all his wiles and charmed all living beings.
english translation
gatvA tatra mahAvIro manmatho mohakArakaH ॥ svaprabhAvaM tatAnAzu mohayAmAsa prANinaH॥2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवसंतोपि प्रभावं स्वं चकार हरमोहनम् ॥ सर्वे वृक्षा एकदैव प्रफुल्ला अभवन्मुने ॥ ३ ॥
O sage, spring too showed his prowess in order to delude Śiva. All the trees simultaneously bloomed.
english translation
vasaMtopi prabhAvaM svaM cakAra haramohanam ॥ sarve vRkSA ekadaiva praphullA abhavanmune ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविविधान्कृतवान्यत्नान् रत्या सह मनोभवः ॥ जीवास्सर्वे वशं यातास्सगणेशश्शिवो न हि ॥ ४ ॥
Kāma and Rati played many a trick. All living beings fell victims of their wiles but not Śiva, the lord of Gaṇas.
english translation
vividhAnkRtavAnyatnAn ratyA saha manobhavaH ॥ jIvAssarve vazaM yAtAssagaNezazzivo na hi ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमधोर्मदनस्यासन्प्रयासा निप्फला मुने ॥ जगाम स मम स्थानं निवृत्त्य विमदस्तदा ॥५॥
O sage, the efforts of Kāma who was accompanied by spring were futile. He returned to his residence being cured of his arrogance.
english translation
samadhormadanasyAsanprayAsA nipphalA mune ॥ jagAma sa mama sthAnaM nivRttya vimadastadA ॥5॥
