व्यास उवाच ॥ सनत्कुमार सर्वज्ञ ब्रह्मपुत्र नमोस्तु ते ॥ अद्भुतेयं कथा तात श्राविता मे त्वया मुने ॥ १ ॥
Vyāsa said: O dear sage, Sanatkumāra, O omniscient son of Brahmā, obeisance be to you. A wonderful story has been narrated to me by you.
english translation
vyAsa uvAca ॥ sanatkumAra sarvajJa brahmaputra namostu te ॥ adbhuteyaM kathA tAta zrAvitA me tvayA mune ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजृंभिते जृंभणास्त्रेण हरिणा समरे हरे ॥ हते बाणबले बाणः किमकार्षीच्च तद्वद ॥ २ ॥
When Śiva was made to yawn and lie flat by Viṣṇu through the Jṛmbhaṇa missile, in the course of the war and when the army of Bāṇa was slain, what did Bāṇa do? Please narrate.

jRMbhite jRMbhaNAstreNa hariNA samare hare ॥ hate bANabale bANaH kimakArSIcca tadvada ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसूत उवाच ॥ इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्तस्य व्यासस्यामिततेजसः ॥ प्रत्युवाच प्रसन्नात्मा ब्रह्मपुत्रो मुनीश्वरः ॥।६॥
Sūta said: On hearing these words of Vyāsa of immeasurable refulgence, the great sage, the delighted son of Brahmā, replied.

sUta uvAca ॥ ityAkarNya vacastasya vyAsasyAmitatejasaH ॥ pratyuvAca prasannAtmA brahmaputro munIzvaraH ॥।6॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसनत्कुमार उवाच॥ शृणु व्यास महाप्राज्ञ कथां च परमाद्भुताम् ॥ कृष्णशंकरयोस्तात लोकलीलानुसारिणोः॥४॥
Sanatkumāra said: O Vyāsa of great intellect, listen to the highly wonderful story of Kṛṣṇa and Śiva who indulge in sports in accordance with the worldly conventions.

sanatkumAra uvAca॥ zRNu vyAsa mahAprAjJa kathAM ca paramAdbhutAm ॥ kRSNazaMkarayostAta lokalIlAnusAriNoH॥4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशयिते लीलया रुद्रे सपुत्रे सगणे सति ॥ बाणो विनिर्गतो युद्धं कर्तुं कृष्णेन दैत्यराट् ॥ ५ ॥
When Śiva sportively lay flat on the ground along with his sons and Gaṇas, Bāṇa the king of Daityas came out to fight with Kṛṣṇa.

zayite lIlayA rudre saputre sagaNe sati ॥ bANo vinirgato yuddhaM kartuM kRSNena daityarAT ॥ 5 ॥
