अथ देवो महादेवो वरलीलाविशारदः ॥ केनापि कारणेनात्र सावज्ञं तदवैक्षत ॥ २१ ॥
Then lord Śiva, an expert in excellent divine sports for some reason looked at it with contempt.
english translation
atha devo mahAdevo varalIlAvizAradaH ॥ kenApi kAraNenAtra sAvajJaM tadavaikSata ॥ 21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुरत्रयं विरूपाक्षः कर्तुं तद्भस्मसात्क्षणात् ॥ समर्थः परमेशानो मीनातु च सतां गतिः ॥२२॥
Śiva is capable of reducing the three cities to ashes in a trice, Still lord Śiva, the goal of the good bides his time.
english translation
puratrayaM virUpAkSaH kartuM tadbhasmasAtkSaNAt ॥ samarthaH paramezAno mInAtu ca satAM gatiH ॥22॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदग्धुं समर्थो देवेशो वीक्षणेन जगत्त्रयम् ॥ अस्मद्यशो विवृद्ध्यर्थं शरं मोक्तुमिहार्हसि ॥२३॥
The lord of gods is capable of burning the three worlds by a single glance. O lord, for the flourish of our fame you shall discharge the arrow.
english translation
dagdhuM samartho devezo vIkSaNena jagattrayam ॥ asmadyazo vivRddhyarthaM zaraM moktumihArhasi ॥23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइति स्तुतोऽमरैस्सर्वैविष्ण्वादिविधिभिस्तदा ॥ दग्धुं पुरत्रयं तद्वै बाणेनैच्छन्महेश्वरः ॥ २४ ॥
On being eulogised by Viṣṇu, Brahmā and other gods, lord Śiva desired to reduce the three cities to ashes with his arrow.
english translation
iti stuto'maraissarvaiviSNvAdividhibhistadA ॥ dagdhuM puratrayaM tadvai bANenaicchanmahezvaraH ॥ 24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअभिलाख्यमुहूर्ते तु विकृष्य धनुरद्भुतम् ॥ कृत्वा ज्यातलनिर्घोषं नादमत्यंतदुस्सहम् ॥ २५ ॥
In the auspicious moment called Abhilāṣa he drew the bow and made a wonderful and unbearable twanging sound.

abhilAkhyamuhUrte tu vikRSya dhanuradbhutam ॥ kRtvA jyAtalanirghoSaM nAdamatyaMtadussaham ॥ 25 ॥
