भवद्भिश्चैव कर्तव्यं कार्यं लोकसुखावहम् ॥ लोकानुकूलं चरतां भविष्यत्युत्तमा गतिः ॥ ३६ ॥
All activities conducive to the happiness of the worlds shall be performed by you. The goal of those who carry on activities favourable to the worlds shall become excellent.
english translation
॥ सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ ततः प्रणम्य तं मायी शिष्ययुक्तस्स्वयं तदा ॥ जगाम त्रिपुरं सद्यः शिवेच्छाकारिणं मुमा ॥ ३७ ॥
Sanatkumāra said: Then, bowing to Viṣṇu who carried out the wishes of Śiva, the deceptive sage went joyously to the three cities accompanied by his disciples.

प्रविश्य तत्पुरं तूर्णं विष्णुना नोदितो वशी ॥ महामायाविना तेन ऋषिर्मायां तदाकरोत् ॥३८॥
Urged by Viṣṇu of great magic, that sage of great self-control entered the three cities and created illusion.

नगरोपवने कृत्वा शिष्यैर्युक्तः स्थितितदा ॥ मायां प्रवर्तयामास मायिनामपि मोहिनीम् ॥३९॥
Stationing himself in a garden at the outskirts of the city, accompanied by his disciples he set his magic in motion. That was powerful enough to fascinate even the expert magicians.

शिवार्चनप्रभावेण तन्माया सहसा मुने॥ त्रिपुरे न चचालाशु निर्विण्णोभूत्तदा यतिः ॥ 2-5-4-४० ॥
O sage, his magic was ineffective in the three cities by virtue of Śiva’s worship. Then the heretic sage became distressed.
