सनत्कुमार उवाच ॥ असृजच्च महातेजाः पुरुषं स्वात्मसंभवम् ॥ एकं मायामयं तेषां धर्मविघ्नार्थमच्युतः ॥ १ ॥
Sanatkumāra said: For causing obstacles in their virtuous activities, Viṣṇu of great brilliance, created a Puruṣa born of himself.
english translation
sanatkumAra uvAca ॥ asRjacca mahAtejAH puruSaM svAtmasaMbhavam ॥ ekaM mAyAmayaM teSAM dharmavighnArthamacyutaH ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमुंडिनं म्लानवस्त्रं च गुंफिपात्रसमन्वितम् ॥ दधानं पुंजिकां हस्ते चालयंतं पदेपदे ॥ २ ॥
He had a shaven head, wore dirty clothes, held a woven wicker vessel in his hand and a roll of cotton in his hand which he shook at every step.
english translation
muMDinaM mlAnavastraM ca guMphipAtrasamanvitam ॥ dadhAnaM puMjikAM haste cAlayaMtaM padepade ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवस्त्रयुक्तं तथा हस्तं क्षीयमाणं मुखे सदा ॥ धर्मेति व्याहरंतं हि वाचा विक्लवया मुनिम् ॥ ३ ॥
His hands tucking at the cloth were weak. His face was pale and weak. In a faltering voice he was muttering “Dharma, Dharma.”
english translation
vastrayuktaM tathA hastaM kSIyamANaM mukhe sadA ॥ dharmeti vyAharaMtaM hi vAcA viklavayA munim ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस नमस्कृत्य विष्णुं तं तत्पुरस्स स्थितोऽथ वै ॥ उवाच वचनं तत्र हरिं स प्रांजलिस्तदा ॥ ४ ॥
He bowed to Viṣṇu and stood in front of him. He spoke to Viṣṇu with hands joined in reverence.
english translation
sa namaskRtya viSNuM taM tatpurassa sthito'tha vai ॥ uvAca vacanaM tatra hariM sa prAMjalistadA ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअरिहन्नच्युतं पूज्यं किं करोमि तदादिश ॥ कानि नामानि मे देव स्थानं वापि वद प्रभो ॥ ५ ॥
O laudable, revered one, please tell me what my names are and what my place shall be.
english translation
arihannacyutaM pUjyaM kiM karomi tadAdiza ॥ kAni nAmAni me deva sthAnaM vApi vada prabho ॥ 5 ॥
