एतस्मिन्समये तस्या हठं श्रुत्वा दृढं महत्।। द्रुतं शिवप्रियो विष्णुस्समागत्याऽब्रवीदिदम्।।८६।।

In the meantime, on hearing of her persistent obduracy, Viṣṇu a favourite of Śiva came there and spoke as follows.

english translation

etasminsamaye tasyA haThaM zrutvA dRDhaM mahat|| drutaM zivapriyo viSNussamAgatyA'bravIdidam||86||

विष्णुरुवाच।। पितॄणां च प्रिया पुत्री मानसी गुणसंयुता।। पत्नी हिमवतस्साक्षाद्ब्रह्मणः कुलमुत्तमम् ।।८७।।

sanskrit

Viṣṇu said: You are the beloved mental daughter of the Pitṛs. You are endowed with all good qualities. You are wife of Himavat himself. Yours is the excellent race of Brahmā.

english translation

viSNuruvAca|| pitRRNAM ca priyA putrI mAnasI guNasaMyutA|| patnI himavatassAkSAdbrahmaNaH kulamuttamam ||87||

सहायास्तादृशा लोके धन्या ह्यसि वदामि किम् ।। धर्मस्याधारभूतासि कथं धर्मं जहासि हि ।।८८।।

sanskrit

Your well-wishers in the world are also like him (Brahmā). You are really blessed. What more can I say? You are reputed to be a patron of virtue. Why do you then eschew virtue?

english translation

sahAyAstAdRzA loke dhanyA hyasi vadAmi kim || dharmasyAdhArabhUtAsi kathaM dharmaM jahAsi hi ||88||

देवैश्च ऋषिभिश्चैव ब्रह्मणा वा मया तथा ।। विरुद्धं कथ्यते किं नु त्वयैव सुविचार्यताम् ।।।८९।।।

May this be pondered over by you yourself. Can anything against you be mentioned by the gods, sages, or Brahmā or by myself?

english translation

devaizca RSibhizcaiva brahmaNA vA mayA tathA || viruddhaM kathyate kiM nu tvayaiva suvicAryatAm |||89|||

शिवत्वं न च जानासि निर्गुणस्य गुणस्स हि।। विरूपस्स सुरूपो हि सर्वसेव्यस्सतां गतिः ।।2.3.44.९०।।

sanskrit

You do not know Śiva. He is both possessed and devoid of attributes. He is hideous as well as comely. He is worthy of worship by all. He is the ultimate goal of the good.

english translation

zivatvaM na ca jAnAsi nirguNasya guNassa hi|| virUpassa surUpo hi sarvasevyassatAM gatiH ||2.3.44.90||
