अनेकरूपनामा च नाना लीलाकरः प्रभुः ॥ सर्वस्वामी स्वतन्त्रश्च मायाधीशोऽविकल्पकः ॥ ७६ ॥
The lord has several forms and names. He indulges in many kinds of divine sports. He is the lord of all and independent. He is the master of delusion and free from doubtful alternatives.
english translation
इति विज्ञाय मेने त्वं शिवान्देहि शिवाय वै ॥ कुहठन्त्यज कुज्ञानं सर्वकार्यविनाशनम् ॥ ७७ ॥
Realising this, O Menā, give your daughter to Śiva. Abandon your misplaced stubbornness. Your evil inclination is destructive of all affairs.
english translation
ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ इत्युक्ता सा मया मेना विलपन्ती मुहुर्मुहुः ॥ लज्जां किंचिच्छनैस्त्यक्त्वा मुने मां वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥७८॥
Thus addressed by me Menā continued to cry again and again. Slowly, O sage, she eschewed all shame and spoke to me.
english translation
मेनोवाच ॥ किमर्थन्तु भवान्ब्रह्मन्रूपमस्य महावरम् ॥ व्यर्थीकरोति किमियं हन्यतां न स्वयं शिवा ॥ ७९ ॥
Menā said: O Brahmā, why do you render her excellent beauty futile? Why don’t you kill her yourself?
english translation
न वक्तव्यं च भवता शिवाय प्रतिदीयताम् ॥ न दास्येऽहं शिवायैनां स्वसुताम्प्राणवल्लभाम् ॥ 2-3-44-८० ॥
You shall not tell me again that she should be given to Śiva. I will not give my daughter, dearer than my own life, to Śiva.
