ततः क्षुधार्दिता दीना यष्टिपाणिर्गतेक्षणा ॥ चाण्डालोच्छिष्टपिंडेन जठराग्निमतपर्यत् ॥ २१ ॥
Emaciated and distressed with hunger, blind and moving about with a staff in her hand, she somehow subdued her gastric fire by the leavings of food of the Cāṇḍālas nearby.
english translation
tataH kSudhArditA dInA yaSTipANirgatekSaNA ॥ cANDAlocchiSTapiMDena jaTharAgnimataparyat ॥ 21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं कृच्छ्रेण महता नीत्वा स्वविपुलं वयः ॥ जरयाग्रस्तसवार्ङ्गी दुःखमाप दुरत्ययम् ॥ २२ ॥
With great difficulty and sufferings she passed a major portion of her life. When old age affected her limbs she was subjected to unending grief and distress.
english translation
evaM kRcchreNa mahatA nItvA svavipulaM vayaH ॥ jarayAgrastasavArGgI duHkhamApa duratyayam ॥ 22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकदाचित्साथ चांडाली गोकर्णं तं महाजनान् ॥ आयास्यंत्यां शिवतिथौ गच्छतो बुबुधेऽन्वगान् ॥ २३॥
Once she came to know of travellers going to visit Mahābala and Gokarṇa on the Śiva festival day.
english translation
kadAcitsAtha cAMDAlI gokarNaM taM mahAjanAn ॥ AyAsyaMtyAM zivatithau gacchato bubudhe'nvagAn ॥ 23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथासावपि चांडाली वसनासनतृष्णया ॥ महाजनान् याचयितुं संचचार शनैः शनैः ॥ २४॥
Then prompted by a desire for clothes and meals she walked slowly to beg of the general public.
english translation
athAsAvapi cAMDAlI vasanAsanatRSNayA ॥ mahAjanAn yAcayituM saMcacAra zanaiH zanaiH ॥ 24॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगत्वा तत्राथ चांडाली प्रार्थयन्ती महाजनान्॥ यत्र तत्र चचारासौ दीनवाक्प्रसृताञ्जलिः ॥ २५॥
She moved about here and there begging of the people imploring them with piteous words and outstretched hands after arriving at that place.

gatvA tatrAtha cAMDAlI prArthayantI mahAjanAn॥ yatra tatra cacArAsau dInavAkprasRtAJjaliH ॥ 25॥
