श्वश्रूं निवेदयामास पुत्रस्ते च कुतो गतः॥ शय्या च रुधिरार्द्रा वै दृश्यंते देहखंडकाः॥ २१॥
She told her mother-in-law, “where has your son gone? The bed is wet with blood. Pieces of the body are also seen.”
english translation
zvazrUM nivedayAmAsa putraste ca kuto gataH॥ zayyA ca rudhirArdrA vai dRzyaMte dehakhaMDakAH॥ 21॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptहा हतास्मि कृतं केन दुष्टं कर्म शुचिव्रते॥ इत्युच्चार्य रुरोदातिविविधं तत्प्रिया च सा॥ २२॥
The daughter-in-law fond of her husband began to lament—“O I am doomed. O my mother of holy rites, who has perpetrated this wicked deed?”
english translation
hA hatAsmi kRtaM kena duSTaM karma zucivrate॥ ityuccArya rurodAtivividhaM tatpriyA ca sA॥ 22॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptज्येष्ठा दुःखं तदापन्ना हा हतास्मि किलेति च ॥ बहिर्दुःखं चकारासौ मनसा हर्षसंयुता॥ २३॥
The senior wife, though delighted inwardly, showed great distress outwardly saying “O I am doomed!”
english translation
jyeSThA duHkhaM tadApannA hA hatAsmi kileti ca ॥ bahirduHkhaM cakArAsau manasA harSasaMyutA॥ 23॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptघुश्मा चापि तदा तस्या वध्वा दुखं निशम्य सा॥ न चचाल व्रतात्तस्मान्नित्यपार्थिवपूजनात्॥ २४॥
Ghuśmā heard the pitiable lamentation of her daughter-in-law but did not leave off her sacred rite, the daily worship of Śiva’s earthen image.
english translation
ghuzmA cApi tadA tasyA vadhvA dukhaM nizamya sA॥ na cacAla vratAttasmAnnityapArthivapUjanAt॥ 24॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमनश्चैवोत्सुकं नैव जातं तस्या मनागपि॥ भर्तापि च तथैवासीद्यावद्व्रतविधिर्भवेत्॥ २५॥
Her mind did not exhibit any agitation. The husband too remained calm till the completion of the sacred rite.

manazcaivotsukaM naiva jAtaM tasyA manAgapi॥ bhartApi ca tathaivAsIdyAvadvratavidhirbhavet॥ 25॥
