सूत उवाच ॥ पुत्रं दृष्ट्वा कनिष्ठाया ज्येष्ठा दुःखमुपागता ॥ विरोधं सा चकाराशु न सहंती च तत्सुखम् ॥ १ ॥
Sūta said:— On seeing the son of the younger sister, the elder sister was much distressed. Unable to see her pleasure she became inimical.
english translation
sUta uvAca ॥ putraM dRSTvA kaniSThAyA jyeSThA duHkhamupAgatA ॥ virodhaM sA cakArAzu na sahaMtI ca tatsukham ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वे पुत्रप्रसूतिं तां प्रशशंसुर्निरन्तरम् ॥ तया तत्सह्यते न स्म शिशो रूपादिकं तथा ॥ २॥
Her people celebrated the birth of a son continually. But she could not bear the sight of the beautiful child.
english translation
sarve putraprasUtiM tAM prazazaMsurnirantaram ॥ tayA tatsahyate na sma zizo rUpAdikaM tathA ॥ 2॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुप्रियं तनयं तं च पित्रोस्सद्गुणभाजनम् ॥ दृष्ट्वाऽभवत्तदा तस्या हृदयं तप्तमग्निवत् ॥ ३॥
On seeing the son, a great favourite of the parents and endowed with all good qualities, her heart began to blaze like fire.
english translation
supriyaM tanayaM taM ca pitrossadguNabhAjanam ॥ dRSTvA'bhavattadA tasyA hRdayaM taptamagnivat ॥ 3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतस्मिन्नंतरे विप्राः कन्यां दातुं समागताः ॥ विवाहं तस्य तत्रैव चकार विधिवच्च सः ॥ ४॥
In the meantime many brahmins came there offering their daughters in marriage. Sudharmā celebrated the marriage of his son duly.
english translation
etasminnaMtare viprAH kanyAM dAtuM samAgatAH ॥ vivAhaM tasya tatraiva cakAra vidhivacca saH ॥ 4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसुधर्मा घुश्मया सार्द्धमानन्दं परमं गतः ॥ सर्वे संबंधिनस्तस्यां घुश्मायां मानमादधुः ॥ ५॥
Sudharmā was extremely delighted in the company of Ghuśmā. All the relatives honoured Ghuśmā much.

sudharmA ghuzmayA sArddhamAnandaM paramaM gataH ॥ sarve saMbaMdhinastasyAM ghuzmAyAM mAnamAdadhuH ॥ 5॥
