सूत उवाच ॥एतस्मिन्नन्तरे विप्रो गौतमं पर्यभर्त्सयन् ॥ विप्रपत्न्यस्तथाऽहल्यां दुर्वचोभिर्व्यथां ददुः ॥ ३६ ॥
Sūta said:— In the meantime the brahmins reproached Gautama. The wives of the brahmins tormented Ahalyā with threats.
english translation
sUta uvAca ॥etasminnantare vipro gautamaM paryabhartsayan ॥ viprapatnyastathA'halyAM durvacobhirvyathAM daduH ॥ 36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदुर्बुद्धयश्च तच्छिष्यास्सुतास्तेषां तथैव च ॥ गौतम परिभर्त्स्यैव प्रत्यूचुर्धिग्वचो मुहुः ॥ ३७॥
The evil-minded disciples and sons of the brahmins reviled at Gautama repeating the words, “Fie on you.”
english translation
durbuddhayazca tacchiSyAssutAsteSAM tathaiva ca ॥ gautama paribhartsyaiva pratyUcurdhigvaco muhuH ॥ 37॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptऋषय ऊचुः ॥ मुखं न दर्शनीयं ते गम्यतां गम्यतामिति ॥ दृष्ट्वा गोघ्नमुखं सद्यस्सचैलं स्नानमाचरेत् ॥ ३८ ॥
The sages said:— Your face is not fit to be seen. Go hence. If a person sees the face of a cow-killer, he shall take bath in full dress.
english translation
RSaya UcuH ॥ mukhaM na darzanIyaM te gamyatAM gamyatAmiti ॥ dRSTvA goghnamukhaM sadyassacailaM snAnamAcaret ॥ 38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयावदाश्रममध्ये त्वं तावदेव हविर्भुजः ॥ पितरश्च न गृह्णंति ह्यस्मद्दत्तं हि किञ्चन ॥ ३९॥
As long as you stay in the midst of the hermitage, the sacrificial fires and the manes will not accept our gifts.
english translation
yAvadAzramamadhye tvaM tAvadeva havirbhujaH ॥ pitarazca na gRhNaMti hyasmaddattaM hi kiJcana ॥ 39॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्माद्गच्छान्यतस्त्वं च परिवारसमन्वितः ॥ विलम्बं कुरु नैव त्वं धेनुहन्पापकारक ॥ ४०॥
Hence, O sinner, O slayer of a cow, go somewhere else along with your followers. Do not delay.
english translation
tasmAdgacchAnyatastvaM ca parivArasamanvitaH ॥ vilambaM kuru naiva tvaM dhenuhanpApakAraka ॥ 40॥
