देवा ऊचुः ॥ ब्रह्मन्वै रक्षसस्तेजो लोकान्पीडितुमुद्यतम् ॥ यत्प्रार्थ्यते च दुष्टेन तत्त्वं देहि वरं विधे ॥ २६॥
The gods said:— O Brahmā, the fiery splendour of the demon has risen to harass the worlds. O Brahmā, grant the boon to this wicked Rākṣasa.
english translation
नोचेदद्य वयं दग्धास्तीव्रतत्तेजसा पुनः ॥ यास्यामस्संक्षयं सर्वे तस्मात्तं देहि प्रार्थितम् ॥ २७ ॥
If not, we shall be scorched by his terrible fiery splendour and court ruin. Hence grant him his prayer.
english translation
सूत उवाच ॥ इति तेषां वचश्श्रुत्वा ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः ॥ जगाम च वरं दातुं वचनं चेदमब्रवीत् ॥ २८ ॥
Sūta said:- On hearing their words, Brahmā the grandfather of the universe went there to grant him the boon and spoke thus.
english translation
ब्रह्मोवाच ॥ प्रसन्नोऽस्मि वरं ब्रूहि यत्ते मनसि वर्तते ॥ इति श्रुत्वा विधेर्वाक्यमब्रवीद्राक्षसो हि सः ॥ २९ ॥
Brahmā said:— “I am delighted with you. Mention the boon you desire in your mind.” On hearing the words of Brahmā the Rākṣasa said.
english translation
भीम उवाच ॥ यदि प्रसन्नो देवेश यदि देयो वर स्त्वया ॥ अतुलं च बलं मेऽद्य देहि त्वं कमलासन ॥ ३० ॥
Brahmā said:— O lord of gods, if you are delighted, if a boon is to be granted by you, O Lotus-seated one, grant me unequalled strength.
