सूत उवाच ॥ तदाकर्ण्य वचस्तेषां देवानां परमेश्वरः ॥ प्रत्युवाच प्रसन्नात्मा दुष्टहंता सतां गतिः ॥ ६ ॥
Sūta said:— On hearing the words of the gods, the delighted lord Śiva, the slayer of the wicked and the goal of the good replied.
english translation
sUta uvAca ॥ tadAkarNya vacasteSAM devAnAM paramezvaraH ॥ pratyuvAca prasannAtmA duSTahaMtA satAM gatiH ॥ 6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशिव उवाच ॥ घातयिष्यामि तं दैत्यमन्धकं सुरसूदनम् ॥ सैन्यं च नीयतान्देवा ह्यायामि च गणैस्सह ॥ ७ ॥
Śiva said:— I shall slay that Asura Andhaka, the murderer of the gods. O gods, proceed with the army. I too shall come along with the Gaṇas.
english translation
ziva uvAca ॥ ghAtayiSyAmi taM daityamandhakaM surasUdanam ॥ sainyaM ca nIyatAndevA hyAyAmi ca gaNaissaha ॥ 7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्माद्गर्तादंधके हि देवर्षिद्रुहि भीकरे ॥ निस्सृते च तदा तस्मिन्देवा गर्तमुपाश्रिताः ॥ ८॥
When that terrible antagonist of the gods and the sages came out of the ditch, the gods went and occupied it.
english translation
tasmAdgartAdaMdhake hi devarSidruhi bhIkare ॥ nissRte ca tadA tasmindevA gartamupAzritAH ॥ 8॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदैत्याश्च देवताश्चैव युद्धं चक्रुः सुदारुणम् ॥ शिवानुग्रहतो देवाः प्रबलाश्चाभवँस्तदा ॥ ९ ॥
The Asuras and the gods fought a terrible battle. By the blessings of Śiva, the gods became very strong.
english translation
daityAzca devatAzcaiva yuddhaM cakruH sudAruNam ॥ zivAnugrahato devAH prabalAzcAbhava~stadA ॥ 9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेवैश्च पीडितः सोपि यावद्गर्तमुपागतः ॥ तावच्छूलेन संप्रोतः शिवेन परमात्मना ॥ १०॥
Attacked and tormented by the gods, the Asura returned to the ditch when he was pierced through with the trident by Śiva, the supreme soul.

devaizca pIDitaH sopi yAvadgartamupAgataH ॥ tAvacchUlena saMprotaH zivena paramAtmanA ॥ 10॥
