सूत उवाच॥ यथाभवल्लिंगरूपः संपूज्यस्त्रिभवे शिवः॥ तथोक्तं वा द्विजाः प्रीत्या किमन्यच्छ्रोतुमिच्छथ ॥ १॥
Sūta said:— O brahmins, it has been narrated to you how Śiva came to be worshipped in the three worlds in the form of a phallic image. What else do you wish to hear?
english translation
sUta uvAca॥ yathAbhavalliMgarUpaH saMpUjyastribhave zivaH॥ tathoktaM vA dvijAH prItyA kimanyacchrotumicchatha ॥ 1॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptऋषय ऊचुः।अन्धकेश्वरलिंगस्य महिमानं वद प्रभो ॥ तथान्यच्छिवलिंगानां प्रीत्या वक्तुमिहार्हसि ॥ २ ॥
The sages said:— O holy lord, please narrate the glory of the phallic image known as Andhakeśvara. Similarly it behoves you to mention the glory of other phallic images willingly.
english translation
RSaya UcuH।andhakezvaraliMgasya mahimAnaM vada prabho ॥ tathAnyacchivaliMgAnAM prItyA vaktumihArhasi ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसूत उवाच ॥ पुराब्धिगर्तमाश्रित्य वसन्दैत्योऽन्धकासुरः ॥ स्ववशं कारयामास त्रैलोक्यं सुरसूदनः ॥ ३ ॥
Sūta said:— Formerly the Asura Andhaka resorted to the deep ditch of the ocean and kept the three worlds under his control. He harassed the gods.
english translation
sUta uvAca ॥ purAbdhigartamAzritya vasandaityo'ndhakAsuraH ॥ svavazaM kArayAmAsa trailokyaM surasUdanaH ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्माद्गर्ताच्च निस्सृत्य पीडयित्वा पुनः प्रजाः ॥ प्राविशच्च तदा दैत्यस्तं गर्तं सुपराक्रमः ॥ ४॥
He used to come out of the ditch and harrass the people. Then he of great exploit re-entered the ditch.
english translation
tasmAdgartAcca nissRtya pIDayitvA punaH prajAH ॥ prAvizacca tadA daityastaM gartaM suparAkramaH ॥ 4॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदेवाश्च दुःखितः सर्वे शिवं प्रार्थ्य पुनःपुनः ॥ सर्वं निवेदयामासुस्स्वदुःखं च मुनीश्वराः ॥ ५॥
O great sages, the gods were grief-stricken. Imploring Śiva again and again, they mentioned their miseries to him.

devAzca duHkhitaH sarve zivaM prArthya punaHpunaH ॥ sarvaM nivedayAmAsussvaduHkhaM ca munIzvarAH ॥ 5॥
