अन्धकेशं च तल्लिंगं नित्यं यः पूजयेन्नरः ।। षण्मासाज्जायते तस्य वांछासिद्धिर्न संशयः ।। १६ ।।

f a man worships Andhakeśa every day, his desires are fulfilled within six months.

english translation

andhakezaM ca talliMgaM nityaM yaH pUjayennaraH || SaNmAsAjjAyate tasya vAMchAsiddhirna saMzayaH || 16 ||

वृत्त्यर्थं पूजयेल्लिंगं लोकस्य हितकारकम् ।। षण्मासं यो द्विजश्चैव स वै देवलकः स्मृतः ।। १७ ।।

One should worship the linga for the sake of occupation which is beneficial to the world A brāhmaṇa who lives for six months is called a devalaka.

english translation

vRttyarthaM pUjayelliMgaM lokasya hitakArakam || SaNmAsaM yo dvijazcaiva sa vai devalakaH smRtaH || 17 ||

यथा देवलकश्चैव स भवेदिह वै तदा ।। देवलकश्च यः प्रोक्तो नाधिकारो द्विजस्य हि ।। १८।।

Then he will be here in the same way as Devalakas The devalakas mentioned above are not the rights of the brāhmaṇas.

english translation

yathA devalakazcaiva sa bhavediha vai tadA || devalakazca yaH prokto nAdhikAro dvijasya hi || 18||

।। ऋषय ऊचुः ।। देवलकश्च कः प्रोक्तः किं कार्यं तस्य विद्यते ।। तत्त्वं वद महाप्राज्ञ लोकानां हितहेतवे ।। १९ ।।

The sages said:— Who is a Devalaka? What is his function? O intelligent one, mention that for the guidance of the people.

english translation

|| RSaya UcuH || devalakazca kaH proktaH kiM kAryaM tasya vidyate || tattvaM vada mahAprAjJa lokAnAM hitahetave || 19 ||

सूत उवाच ।। दधीचिर्नाम विप्रो यो धर्मिष्ठो वेदपारगः ।। शिवभक्तिरतो नित्यं शिवशास्त्रपरायणः ।। २० ।।

Sūta said:— There was a brahmin Dadhīci who was well-versed in the Vedas and highly virtuous. He was engrossed in his devotion to Śiva and was interested in Śiva’s lore.
