गंधपुष्पैरलंकृत्वा धूपगुग्गुलुना ततः॥ विष्णो हव्यमिति प्रोच्य रक्षस्वेति वदन्ददेत् ॥ ५६ ॥

Then decorate it with fragrant flowers and incense and guggulu After saying that Lord Viṣṇu is the oblation, one should say, “Protect me.”

दण्डं दक्षिणहस्ते तु वामे दद्यात्कमण्डलुम् ॥ प्रजापते न त्वदेतान्यन्यो मंत्रेण सोदकम् ॥ ५७ ॥

In the right hand one should hold a staff and in the left hand a waterpot. O creator, no one else can offer you water by chanting mantras.

daNDaM dakSiNahaste tu vAme dadyAtkamaNDalum ॥ prajApate na tvadetAnyanyo maMtreNa sodakam ॥ 57 ॥

ब्रह्मजज्ञानम्प्रथममितिमंत्रेण मस्तके ॥ स्पृशञ्जप्त्वा रुद्रसूक्तं भुवोर्मध्ये स्पृशञ्जपेत् ॥ ५८ ॥

Brahmajajnanamprathamamiti mantra on the head. After chanting the Rudra Sukta, one should touch the middle of the earth.

मानो महान्तमित्यादिचतुर्भिर्मस्तकन्ततः ॥ नालिकेरेण निर्भिद्यादवटं पूरयेत्ततः ॥ ५९ ॥

The skull shall be split with a coconut repeating the four mantras beginning with “Mā no Mahāntam” etc. Then the ditch shall be filled.

Touching the five Brahmans one should chant the mantra with an exclusive mind He who is above the gods and who is beyond them is the great Lord.
