बृ॒हदिन्द्रा॑य गायत॒ मरु॑तो वृत्र॒हन्त॑मम् । येन॒ ज्योति॒रज॑नयन्नृता॒वृधो॑ दे॒वं दे॒वाय॒ जागृ॑वि ॥ बृहदिन्द्राय गायत मरुतो वृत्रहन्तमम् । येन ज्योतिरजनयन्नृतावृधो देवं देवाय जागृवि ॥
Priests sing to Indra the most sin-destroying Bṛhat-sāman, by which the upholders of truth producedthe divine all-waking luminary for the god.
english translation
अपा॑धमद॒भिश॑स्तीरशस्ति॒हाथेन्द्रो॑ द्यु॒म्न्याभ॑वत् । दे॒वास्त॑ इन्द्र स॒ख्याय॑ येमिरे॒ बृह॑द्भानो॒ मरु॑द्गण ॥ अपाधमदभिशस्तीरशस्तिहाथेन्द्रो द्युम्न्याभवत् । देवास्त इन्द्र सख्याय येमिरे बृहद्भानो मरुद्गण ॥
Indra, the destroyer of those who offer not praise, has driven away the malevolent and has becomeglorious; I indra of mighty splendour, lord of the troops of Maruts, the gods press you for your friendship.
english translation
प्र व॒ इन्द्रा॑य बृह॒ते मरु॑तो॒ ब्रह्मा॑र्चत । वृ॒त्रं ह॑नति वृत्र॒हा श॒तक्र॑तु॒र्वज्रे॑ण श॒तप॑र्वणा ॥ प्र व इन्द्राय बृहते मरुतो ब्रह्मार्चत । वृत्रं हनति वृत्रहा शतक्रतुर्वज्रेण शतपर्वणा ॥
Priests, utter forth the hymn to your great Indra; let Śatakratu, the slayer of Vṛtra, smite Vṛtra with his hundred-edged thunderbolt.
english translation
अ॒भि प्र भ॑र धृष॒ता धृ॑षन्मन॒: श्रव॑श्चित्ते असद्बृ॒हत् । अर्ष॒न्त्वापो॒ जव॑सा॒ वि मा॒तरो॒ हनो॑ वृ॒त्रं जया॒ स्व॑: ॥ अभि प्र भर धृषता धृषन्मनः श्रवश्चित्ते असद्बृहत् । अर्षन्त्वापो जवसा वि मातरो हनो वृत्रं जया स्वः ॥
Daring-souled (Indra), there is abundance of food with you-- boldly bring it to us; let our mothers (thewaters) impetuously spread over the earth; smite Vṛtra, and conquer all.
english translation
यज्जाय॑था अपूर्व्य॒ मघ॑वन्वृत्र॒हत्या॑य । तत्पृ॑थि॒वीम॑प्रथय॒स्तद॑स्तभ्ना उ॒त द्याम् ॥ यज्जायथा अपूर्व्य मघवन्वृत्रहत्याय । तत्पृथिवीमप्रथयस्तदस्तभ्ना उत द्याम् ॥
Maghavan, who had none before you, when you were born for the slaying of Vṛtra, then you did spreadabroad the earth, then you did prop up the heavens.
