मालिनं विमुखं कृत्वा शङ्खचक्रगदाधरः । मालिमौलिं ध्वजं चापं वाजिनश्चाप्यपातयत् ॥ 7-7-36 ॥
Having turned Mali away in flight, the bearer of conch, discus, and mace struck down Mali's crown, his banner, his bow, and his horses as well.
english translation
विरथस्तु गदां गृह्य माली नक्तञ्चरोत्तमः । आपुप्लुवे गदापाणिर्गिर्यग्रादिव केसरी ॥ 7-7-37 ॥
Mali, the foremost of the night-rangers, deprived of his chariot, seized his mace and leapt up, mace in hand, like a lion bounding from a mountain peak.
english translation
गदया गरुडेशानमीशानमिव चान्तकः । ललाटदेशे ऽभ्यहनद्वज्रेणेन्द्रो यथा ऽचलम् ॥ 7-7-38 ॥
With his mace he struck the lord who rides Garuda upon the forehead, as Antaka would strike Ishana, or as Indra struck a mountain with his thunderbolt.
english translation
गदयाभिहतस्तेन मालिना गरुडो भृशम् । रणात्पराङ्मुखं देवं कृतवान्वेदनातुरः ॥ 7-7-39 ॥
Garuda, sorely smitten by Mali with that mace and overcome with pain, caused the god mounted upon him to turn his back upon the battle.
english translation
पराङ्मुखे कृते देवे मालिना गरुडेन वै । उदतिष्ठन्महाञ्छब्दो रक्षसामभिनर्दताम् ॥ 7-7-40 ॥
When the god had been made to turn away by Mali through Garuda, a great roar arose from the rakshasas shouting all together.
