यस्मादनपराधं त्वं सहायं मम जघ्निवान् । तस्मात्तवापि पापिष्ठ प्रदास्यामि प्रतिक्रियाम् ॥ 7-65-16 ॥

"Since you have slain my companion, who had done no wrong, therefore upon you too, most wicked one, I shall inflict requital."

english translation

एवमुक्त्वा तु तद्राक्षस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत । कालपर्याययोगेन राजा मित्रसहो ऽभवत् ॥ 7-65-17 ॥

"Having spoken thus, that rakshasa vanished on the very spot; and in the course of time the king became Mitrasaha."

english translation

राजापि यजते यज्ञमस्याश्रमसमीपतः । अश्वमेधं महायज्ञं तं वसिष्ठो ऽभ्यपालयत् ॥ 7-65-18 ॥

The king too performed a sacrifice near his hermitage, a great horse-sacrifice, and Vasishtha presided over it as its protector.

english translation

तत्र यज्ञो महानासीद्बहुवर्षगणायुतः । समृद्धः परया लक्ष्म्या देवयज्ञसमो ऽभवत् ॥ 7-65-19 ॥

There the great sacrifice continued for many groups of years; abounding in supreme splendor, it became the equal of a sacrifice of the gods.

english translation

अथावसाने यज्ञस्य पूर्ववैरमनुस्मरन् । वसिष्ठरूपी राजानमिति होवाच राक्षसः ॥ 7-65-20 ॥

Then, at the conclusion of the sacrifice, a rakshasa, remembering an old enmity, took on the form of Vasishtha and spoke thus to the king.
