अर्जुनेन विमुक्तस्तु रावणो राक्षसाधिपः । चचार पृथिवीं सर्वामनिर्विण्णस्तथा कृतः ॥ 7-34-1 ॥

Released by Arjuna, Ravana, lord of the Rakshasas, roamed over the whole earth, undaunted even after being treated so.

english translation

राक्षसं वा मनुष्यं वा शृणुते ऽयं बलाधिकम् । रावणस्तं समासाद्य युद्धे ह्वयति दर्पितः ॥ 7-34-2 ॥

Whenever he heard of a Rakshasa or a man of surpassing strength, Ravana, swollen with pride, would seek him out and challenge him to battle.

english translation

ततः कदाचित्किष्किन्धां नगरीं वालिपालिताम् । गत्वा ह्वयति युद्धाय वालिनं हेममालिनम् ॥ 7-34-3 ॥

Then once he went to the city of Kishkindha, ruled by Vali, and challenged to battle Vali, who wore a garland of gold.

english translation

ततस्तु वानरामात्यस्तारस्तारापिता प्रभुः । उवाच वानरो वाक्यं युद्धप्रेप्सुमुपागतम् ॥ 7-34-4 ॥

Thereupon the vanara Tara, minister of the vanaras and father of Tara, a lord among them, spoke these words to the one who had come eager for battle.

english translation

राक्षसेन्द गतो वाली यस्ते प्रतिबलो भवेत् । को ऽन्यः प्रमुखतः स्थातुं तव शक्तः प्लवङ्गमः ॥ 7-34-5 ॥

O lord of the Rakshasas, Vali, who alone would be a match for you, has gone away; what other monkey is able to stand before your face?
