प्रोक्तवन्तश्च मां पुत्रास्त्वयाहो नाशिता वयम् । अनेन नाट्यदोषेण शूद्राचारा हि यत् कृताः ॥ ४६॥

"My sons said to me, 'Alas! We have been destroyed due to this theatrical fault, as the actions performed are those of a Shudra (low-born) character.'"

english translation

proktavantazca mAM putrAstvayAho nAzitA vayam | anena nATyadoSeNa zUdrAcArA hi yat kRtAH || 46||

मयापि सान्त्वयित्वोक्ता मा क्रोधं व्रजतानघाः । कृतान्तविहितोऽस्माकं नूनमेष विधिः सुताः ॥ ४७॥

"After consoling me, they said, 'Do not be angry, O sinless ones! This is surely the destiny laid out for us by the Creator.'"

mayApi sAntvayitvoktA mA krodhaM vrajatAnaghAH | kRtAntavihito'smAkaM nUnameSa vidhiH sutAH || 47||

"Know that this drama, which has been initiated by Brahma, will be imparted to the disciples and others through the proper method."

मा वै प्रणश्यतामेतन्नाट्यं दुःखप्रवर्तितम् । महाश्रयं महापुण्यं वेदाङ्गोपाङ्गसम्भवम् ॥ ५०॥

"Let this drama, which has originated from sorrow, not be destroyed. It is a great refuge, a source of immense merit, and born from the limbs of the Vedas."

mA vai praNazyatAmetannATyaM duHkhapravartitam | mahAzrayaM mahApuNyaM vedAGgopAGgasambhavam || 50||
