विषमांशाक्षराणि स्युः पदैरर्थवशानुगाः । शम्यातालेन ता योज्या वर्णेनाकर्षितेन तु ॥ ४४॥
Metres having uneven numbers of syllables in their parts (padas) should be arranged in accordance with the sense (artha). These are to be applied with the Śamyā Tāla, and with the syllables suitably prolonged (ākarṣita).
english translation
viSamAMzAkSarANi syuH padairarthavazAnugAH । zamyAtAlena tA yojyA varNenAkarSitena tu ॥ 44॥
