पूर्वेषामेव गीतानां यान्यङ्गानि स्मृतान्यथ । तेषां वृत्तविधौ कार्यमेककं विवधोऽथवा ॥ १६॥

The limbs earlier described for the songs should be applied according to rule as Vṛtta, Vivadha, or Ekaka.

Splitting a single (unit) is known as Ekaka. Dividing it into two is called Vivadha. When it is divided into six or even three or two parts, it is termed Vṛtta. The completion of a word or syllable constitutes what is called Vidārī.

And now I shall explain the method of these, arising from their natural order. For the superior ones, one should first employ the Vṛtta combined with measures. For the middling ones, the Vivadha should be used, and for the inferior ones, the Ekaka.

Having understood the combination of the three-beat or four-beat measure arising from practical use, one should compose the Dhruvā in accordance with that measure as its concluding form.

And whether the Gāyatrī or the Śakvarī (metres) are arranged in between, the Dhruvā intended for the conclusion should be composed according to the measure of their pādas.
