ध्रुवासञ्ज्ञानि यानि स्युर्नारदप्रमुखैर्द्विजैः । गीताङ्गानि तु सर्वाणि विनियुक्तान्यनेकशः ॥ १॥

Listen now from me about those types (of songs) which have been called Dhruvās by Brāhmaṇas such as Nārada and others.

english translation

या ऋचः पाणिका गाथाः सप्तरूपाङ्ग एव च । सप्तरूपप्रमाणं हि तद्ध्रुवेत्यभिसञ्ज्ञिमम् ॥ २॥

The Ṛk (ṛcaḥ), Pāṇikā and Gāthā, and the Seven traditional Types of songs which have seven different measures, are called Dhruvās.

english translation

एभ्यस्त्वङ्गान्यथोद्धृत्य नानाच्छन्दःकृतानि तु । ध्रुवात्वं यानि गच्छन्ति तानि वक्ष्याम्यहं पुनः ॥ ३॥

From these types, when various forms (songs) are created in different metres, those which attain the character of Dhruvā—these I shall now describe.

मुखं प्रतिमुखं चैव वैहायसकमेव तु । स्थितप्रवृत्ते वज्रं च सन्धिः संहरणं तथा ॥ ४॥

The Mukha, Pratimukha, Vaihāyasaka, Sthita, Pravṛtta, Vajra, Sandhi, and Saṃharaṇa are parts (aṅgas) of the Dhruvā songs.

english translation

प्रस्तारो माषघातः स्यादुपर्वतनमेव च । उपघातः प्रवेणी च चतुरश्रं सुशीर्षकम् ॥ ५॥

Prastāra, Māṣaghāta, Upavartana, Upaghāta, Praveṇī, Caturasra, and Śīrṣaka—these too are (included as) parts of the Dhruvā songs.
