द्विर्भावाद्विकलस्यैवं विज्ञेयं च चतुष्कलम् । सप्तमे लघुनि त्वन्त्यो द्विर्भावोऽस्मिन्विधीयते ॥ २३१॥
By the repetition of the two-Kalā unit, the four-Kalā form is to be known. In this, the seventh short syllable is repeated at the end.

dvirbhAvAdvikalasyaivaM vijJeyaM ca catuSkalam । saptame laghuni tvantyo dvirbhAvo'sminvidhIyate ॥ 231॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptचतुष्कलोऽत्र विहितः कलाष्टकमुपोहनम् । एका द्वे च चतुष्कश्च तथा स्यात्प्रत्युपोहनम् ॥ २३२॥
Here the Vastu is prescribed to consist of four Kalas, and the Upohana should comprise eight Kalas. The Pratyupohana should consist of one, two, or four Kalas respectively.

The Śīrṣaka of the Madraka should be composed in the literal (Yathākṣara) manner. In the Madraka of four Kalas, the Pañcapāṇi is of four Kalas, while in that of two Kalas, it is of two Kalas.
