व्यक्तमुक्‍ताङ्गुलिस्तत्र स्वरो ज्ञेयश्चतुःश्रुतिः । कम्प्यमानाङ्गुलिश्चैव त्रिश्रुतिः परिकीर्तितः । द्विकोऽर्धाङ्गुलिमुक्तः स्यादिति श्रुत्याश्रिताः स्वराः ॥ ५ ॥

sanskrit

When the finger is fully removed, the note is known to consist of four Śrutis. When the finger is shaken, the note is considered to consist of three Śrutis. When the finger is partly removed, the note is said to consist of two Śrutis, based on the number of Śrutis determined by the application of fingers.

vyaktamuk‍tAGgulistatra svaro jJeyazcatuHzrutiH | kampyamAnAGgulizcaiva trizrutiH parikIrtitaH | dviko'rdhAGgulimuktaH syAditi zrutyAzritAH svarAH || 5 ||
