Natyashastra
वेश्यानां च प्रदातव्यमासनं च मयूरकम् । शेषाणां प्रमदानां तु भवेद् भूम्यासनं द्विजाः ॥ २२०॥
For courtesans (veśyās), the seat to be given is the mayūraka (a low cushioned seat shaped like a peacock’s tail or similar). For all other women, O Brāhmaṇas, the seat should be on the ground (bhūmy-āsana).
