The Muṇḍāsana (wooden platform seat) should be assigned to the commander of the army and the crown prince. The wooden seat (kāṣṭhāsana) is to be given to Brāhmaṇas, and the carpet-seat (kuthāsana) to the young princes (kumāras).
The Lion-seat (siṃhāsana) should be given to queens, The Muṇḍa-seat to royal ladies (devīs), And the wives of priests and ministers should be given the cane-seat (vetra-āsana).
भोगिनीनां तथा चैव वस्त्रं चर्म कुथोऽपि वा । ब्राह्मणीतापसीनां च पट्टासनमथापि च ॥ २१९॥
For the king's consorts (bhoginīs), the seat should be made of cloth, skin, or a carpet (kutha). For the wives of Brāhmaṇas and female ascetics (tāpasīs), a wooden seat (paṭṭāsana) is to be assigned.
वेश्यानां च प्रदातव्यमासनं च मयूरकम् । शेषाणां प्रमदानां तु भवेद् भूम्यासनं द्विजाः ॥ २२०॥
For courtesans (veśyās), the seat to be given is the mayūraka (a low cushioned seat shaped like a peacock’s tail or similar). For all other women, O Brāhmaṇas, the seat should be on the ground (bhūmy-āsana).
