न तस्य विक्रमः कार्यो विक्षेपश्चरणस्य च । सोद्वाहिता चूर्णपदा सा कार्या कुहनात्मिका ॥ १३७॥
He should not have a vigorous gait or a forceful movement of the foot. His steps should be short (cūrṇa) and lifted slightly—this is the gait suited to his deceptive (comical) nature.
The gait of the Jester should involve the three types of laughter. Laughter arising from limbs, from speech, and from costume and make-up is to be remembered as the three sources of Comic Sentiment.
Having large teeth, a bald head, a hunchback, lameness, and a distorted face—such an appearance on entering is said to cause laughter due to limbs (aṅga-hāsya).
When one walks like a crane, looking up and down repeatedly, and places the feet unusually—this too becomes a cause of laughter due to limbs (aṅga-hāsya).
