एवं धर्म्याणि कार्याणि सम्यक् कुर्वन् महीपतिः । देशानलब्धान्लिप्सेत लब्धांश्च परिपालयेत् ॥ २५१ ॥

A king who thus duly fulfils his duties in accordance with justice, may seek to gain countries which he has not yet gained, and shall duly protect them when he has gained them.

english translation

evaM dharmyANi kAryANi samyak kurvan mahIpatiH | dezAnalabdhAnlipseta labdhAMzca paripAlayet || 251 ||

सम्यग्निविष्टदेशस्तु कृतदुर्गश्च शास्त्रतः । कण्टकोद्धरणे नित्यमातिष्ठेद् यत्नमुत्तमम् ॥ २५२ ॥

Having duly settled his country, and having built forts in accordance with the Institutes, he shall use his utmost exertions to remove (those men who are nocuous like) thorns.

english translation

samyagniviSTadezastu kRtadurgazca zAstrataH | kaNTakoddharaNe nityamAtiSThed yatnamuttamam || 252 ||

रक्षनादार्यवृत्तानां कण्टकानां च शोधनात् । नरेन्द्रास्त्रिदिवं यान्ति प्रजापालनतत्पराः ॥ २५३ ॥

By protecting those who live as (becomes) Aryans and by removing the thorns, kings, solely intent on guarding their subjects, reach heaven.

english translation

rakSanAdAryavRttAnAM kaNTakAnAM ca zodhanAt | narendrAstridivaM yAnti prajApAlanatatparAH || 253 ||

अशासंस्तस्करान् यस्तु बलिं गृह्णाति पार्थिवः । तस्य प्रक्षुभ्यते राष्ट्रं स्वर्गाच्च परिहीयते ॥ २५४ ॥

The realm of that king who takes his share in kind, though he does not punish thieves, (will be) disturbed and he (will) lose heaven.

azAsaMstaskarAn yastu baliM gRhNAti pArthivaH | tasya prakSubhyate rASTraM svargAcca parihIyate || 254 ||

निर्भयं तु भवेद् यस्य राष्ट्रं बाहुबलाश्रितम् । तस्य तद् वर्धते नित्यं सिच्यमान इव द्रुमः ॥ २५५ ॥

But if his kingdom be secure, protected by the strength of his arm, it will constantly flourish like a (well)- watered tree.

english translation

nirbhayaM tu bhaved yasya rASTraM bAhubalAzritam | tasya tad vardhate nityaM sicyamAna iva drumaH || 255 ||
