उत्तमां सेवमानस्तु जघन्यो वधमर्हति । शुल्कं दद्यात् सेवमानः समामिच्छेत् पिता यदि ॥ ३६६ ॥

A (man of) low (caste) who makes love to a maiden (of) the highest (caste) shall suffer corporal punishment; he who addresses a maiden (on) equal (caste) shall pay the nuptial fee, if her father desires it.

english translation

uttamAM sevamAnastu jaghanyo vadhamarhati | zulkaM dadyAt sevamAnaH samAmicchet pitA yadi || 366 ||

अभिषह्य तु यः कन्यां कुर्याद् दर्पेण मानवः । तस्याशु कर्त्ये अङ्गुल्यौ दण्डं चार्हति षट्शतम् ॥ ३६७ ॥

But if any man through insolence forcibly contaminates a maiden, two of his fingers shall be instantly cut off, and he shall pay a fine of six hundred (panas).

english translation

abhiSahya tu yaH kanyAM kuryAd darpeNa mAnavaH | tasyAzu kartye aGgulyau daNDaM cArhati SaTzatam || 367 ||

सकामां दूषयंस्तुल्यो नाङ्गुलिछेदमाप्नुयात् । द्विशतं तु दमं दाप्यः प्रसङ्गविनिवृत्तये ॥ ३६८ ॥

A man (of) equal (caste) who defiles a willing maiden shall not suffer the amputation of his fingers, but shall pay a fine of two hundred (panas) in order to deter him from a repetition (of the offence).

english translation

sakAmAM dUSayaMstulyo nAGgulichedamApnuyAt | dvizataM tu damaM dApyaH prasaGgavinivRttaye || 368 ||

कन्यैव कन्यां या कुर्यात् तस्याः स्याद् द्विशतो दमः । शुल्कं च द्विगुणं दद्यात्शिफाश्चैवाप्नुयाद् दश ॥ ३६९ ॥

A damsel who pollutes (another) damsel must be fined two hundred (panas), pay the double of her (nuptial) fee, and receive ten (lashes with a) rod.

या तु कन्यां प्रकुर्यात् स्त्री सा सद्यो मौण्ड्यमर्हति । अङ्गुल्योरेव वा छेदं खरेणोद्वहनं तथा ॥ ३७० ॥

But a woman who pollutes a damsel shall instantly have (her head) shaved or two fingers cut off, and be made to ride (through the town) on a donkey.

yA tu kanyAM prakuryAt strI sA sadyo mauNDyamarhati | aGgulyoreva vA chedaM khareNodvahanaM tathA || 370 ||
