क्षत्रियस्य परो धर्मः प्रजानामेव पालनम् । निर्दिष्टफलभोक्ता हि राजा धर्मेण युज्यते ॥ १४४ ॥

The highest duty of a Kshatriya is to protect his subjects, for the king who enjoys the rewards, just mentioned, is bound to (discharge that) duty.

english translation

kSatriyasya paro dharmaH prajAnAmeva pAlanam । nirdiSTaphalabhoktA hi rAjA dharmeNa yujyate ॥ 144 ॥
