आमन्त्रितस्तु यः श्राद्धे वृषल्या सह मोदते । दातुर्यद् दुष्कृतं किं चित् तत् सर्वं प्रतिपद्यते ॥ १९१ ॥

sanskrit

But he who, being invited to a Sraddha, dallies with a Sudra woman, takes upon himself all the sins which the giver (of the feast) committed.

english translation

Amantritastu yaH zrAddhe vRSalyA saha modate | dAturyad duSkRtaM kiM cit tat sarvaM pratipadyate || 191 ||

अक्रोधनाः शौचपराः सततं ब्रह्मचारिणः । न्यस्तशस्त्रा महाभागाः पितरः पूर्वदेवताः ॥ १९२ ॥

sanskrit

The manes are primeval deities, free from anger, careful of purity, ever chaste, averse from strife, and endowed with great virtues.

english translation

akrodhanAH zaucaparAH satataM brahmacAriNaH | nyastazastrA mahAbhAgAH pitaraH pUrvadevatAH || 192 ||

यस्मादुत्पत्तिरेतेषां सर्वेषामप्यशेषतः । ये च यैरुपचर्याः स्युर्नियमैस्तान्निबोधत ॥ १९३ ॥

sanskrit

Now learn fully from whom all these (manes derive) their origin, and with what ceremonies they ought to be worshipped.

english translation

yasmAdutpattireteSAM sarveSAmapyazeSataH | ye ca yairupacaryAH syurniyamaistAnnibodhata || 193 ||

मनोर्हैरण्यगर्भस्य ये मरीच्यादयः सुताः । तेषां ऋषीणां सर्वेषां पुत्राः पितृगणाः स्मृताः ॥ १९४ ॥

sanskrit

The (various) classes of the manes are declared to be the sons of all those sages, Mariki and the rest, who are children of Manu, the son of Hiranyagarbha.

english translation

manorhairaNyagarbhasya ye marIcyAdayaH sutAH | teSAM RSINAM sarveSAM putrAH pitRgaNAH smRtAH || 194 ||

विराज्सुताः सोमसदः साध्यानां पितरः स्मृताः ? । अग्निष्वात्ताश्च देवानां मारीचा लोकविश्रुताः ॥ १९५ ॥

sanskrit

The Somasads, the sons of Virag, are stated to be the manes of the Sadhyas, and the Agnishvattas, the children of Mariki, are famous in the world (as the manes) of the gods.

virAjsutAH somasadaH sAdhyAnAM pitaraH smRtAH ? | agniSvAttAzca devAnAM mArIcA lokavizrutAH || 195 ||
