अद्यापि चाहमुद्विग्नस्तक्षन्नस्माद् बिभेमि वै । क्षिप्रं छिन्धि शिरांसि त्वं करिष्येडनुग्रहं तव ॥ ५-९-३६ ॥
'O woodcutter! I am anxious and frightened about this even now. Swiftly cut off his heads and I will show you my favours.'
english translation
शिर: पशोस्ते दास्यन्ति भागं यज्ञेषु मानवा: । एष ते&नुग्रहस्तक्षन् क्षिप्रं कुरुमम प्रियम् ॥ ५-९-३७ ॥
'When animals are sacrificed, men will give you their heads as a share. O woodcutter! This is the favour that I will show to you. Swiftly do that which brings me pleasure.'
english translation
शल्य उवाच एतच्छुत्वा तु तक्षा स महेन्द्रवचनात् तदा । शिरांस्यथ त्रिशिरस: कुठारेणाच्छिनत् तदा ॥ ५-९-३८ ॥
Salya said, 'Having heard these words of the great Indra, the woodcutter sliced off Trishira’s heads with his axe.'
english translation
निकृत्तेषु ततस्तेषु निष्क्रामन्नण्डजास्त्वथ । कपिज्जलास्तित्तिराश्न कलविड्काश्न सर्वश: ॥५-९-३९॥
'And when the heads were cut off, out flew therefrom a number of birds, viz., partridges, quails and sparrows (kapinjalas, tittiras and kalavimkas).'
english translation
येन वेदानधीते सम पिबते सोममेव च । तस्माद् वक्त्राद् विनिश्वेरु: क्षिप्रं तस्प कपिञज्जला: ॥ ५-९-४० ॥
'And from the mouth wherewith he used to recite the Vedas and to drink the Soma-juice, came out partridges in quick succession.'
