मृदु वै मन्यते पापॊ भाष्य माणम अशक्तिजम जितम अर्थं विजानीयाद अबुधॊ मार्दवे सति ॥ ५-४-६ ॥
‘If a gentle course is adopted towards him, that fool will only believe he has already won. Therefore, let us act without delay—let us make our preparations at once and send word to our allies to gather an army on our behalf.’ ॥ 5-4-6 ॥

mRdu vai manyate pApò bhASya mANama azaktijama jitama arthaM vijAnIyAda abudhò mArdave sati ॥ 5-4-6 ॥

‘This, indeed, shall we do; therefore, let every effort be made at once. Send swift messengers to our allies so that they may rouse their forces on our behalf.’ ॥ 5-4-7 ॥

etaca caiva kariSyAmò yatnaza ca kariyatAma iha parasthApayAma mitrebhyò balAnya udyòjayantu naH ॥ 5-4-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशल्यस्य धृष्टकेतॊश च जयत्सेनस्य चाभिभॊः केकयानां च सर्वेषां दूता गच्छन्तु शीघ्रगाः ॥ ५-४-८ ॥
‘Swift messengers should be dispatched to Salya, Dhrishtaketu, Jayatsena, and the prince of the Kekayas.’ ॥ 5-4-8 ॥

zalyasya dhRSTaketòza ca jayatsenasya cAbhibhòH kekayAnAM ca sarveSAM dUtA gacchantu zIghragAH ॥ 5-4-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस तु दुर्यॊधनॊ नूनं परेषयिष्यति सर्वशः पूर्वाभिपन्नाः सन्तश च भजन्ते पूर्वचॊदकम ॥ ५-४-९ ॥
‘Duryodhana, on his part, will also summon all the kings to his side. But it is the way of right-minded men to respond first to those who approach them first.’ ॥ 5-4-9 ॥

sa tu duryòdhanò nUnaM pareSayiSyati sarvazaH pUrvAbhipannAH santaza ca bhajante pUrvacòdakama ॥ 5-4-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत तवरध्वं नरेन्द्राणां पूर्वम एव परचॊदने महद धि कार्यं वॊढव्यम इति मे वर्तते मतिः ॥ ५-४-१० ॥
‘Therefore, I urge you—lose no time! Make haste, and send your entreaties to these rulers of men before Duryodhana does.’ ॥ 5-4-10 ॥
