जन्म वृद्धिम इवार्थानां यॊ वृद्धिम अभिकाङ्क्षते एधते जञातिषु स वै सद्यॊ वृद्धिर हि विक्रमः ।। २-५०-२६ ।।

sanskrit

'One who constantly desires the increase of his wealth naturally grows in stature among his relatives, much like the body grows from birth. Similarly, prowess fosters swift growth.' ।। 2-50-26 ।।

english translation

janma vRddhima ivArthAnAM yò vRddhima abhikAGkSate edhate jaJAtiSu sa vai sadyò vRddhira hi vikramaH || 2-50-26 ||

hk transliteration

नाप्राप्य पाण्डवैश्वर्यं संशयॊ मे भविष्यति अवाप्स्ये वा शरियं तां हि शेष्ये वा निहतॊ युधि ।। २-५०-२७ ।।

sanskrit

'Though I covet the prosperity of the Pandavas, I have yet to attain it. I am currently plagued by doubts about my own capabilities, and I am resolved to dispel these doubts. I will either secure their prosperity or fall in battle.' ।। 2-50-27 ।।

english translation

nAprApya pANDavaizvaryaM saMzayò me bhaviSyati avApsye vA zariyaM tAM hi zeSye vA nihatò yudhi || 2-50-27 ||

hk transliteration

अतादृशस्य किं मे ऽदय जीवितेन विशां पते वर्धन्ते पाण्डवा नित्यं वयं तु सथिरवृद्धयः ।। २-५०-२८ ।।

sanskrit

'O king, with my mind in such a state, I care little for life itself, for while the Pandavas continually thrive, our fortunes show no sign of growth.' ।। 2-50-28 ।।

english translation

atAdRzasya kiM me 'daya jIvitena vizAM pate vardhante pANDavA nityaM vayaM tu sathiravRddhayaH || 2-50-28 ||
