रसायन अध्याय:

Rasayana Adhyaya (Rejuvenation therapy)

The chapter defines Rasayana as a therapeutic category distinct from disease alleviation, aimed at enhancing body tissues to achieve longevity, intelligence, and physical excellence. It categorizes treatments into Bheshaja (therapeutics) and Abheshaja (non-therapeutics), noting that the latter must be avoided. Two administration modes are outlined: indoor and outdoor. The indoor regimen requires a secluded, auspicious cottage with thick walls and three chambers. The patient enters purified and strong, undergoes oleation and fomentation, and consumes specific hot water formulations and barley with ghee before the physician administers the chosen drug. Haritaki and Amalaki are central ingredients, with the Himalayas identified as the superior habitat for medicinal plants. Preparations include Brahma Rasayanam, using five panchamula pentads and pounded fruits, and Chyavanaprasha, which benefits the wasted and elderly. Users gain divine psyche, firmness, and valor.

Lord Punarvasu Atreya expounds the Pranakamiyam Rasayana pada, instructing abstention from unwholesome diets. Specific preparations include Amalaki ghee cooked with punarnava, vidari, jeevanti, bala, atibala, and shatavari, repeated hundreds or thousands of times. This ghee, mixed with sugar and honey, is stored in clean, ghee-lubricated vessels and used regularly by digestive capacity. Proper consumption promises a hundred-year lifespan devoid of senility, purified complexion, thunderous voice, and stable progeny. Additional formulations include Amalaki Avaleha and Vidanga Avaleha, stored in ghee-lined containers under ashes during early rains. Nagabala Rasayana requires collecting roots in specific months from unspoiled forest soil. Bhallataka preparations, such as Kshaudram and Tailam, involve complex extraction. Though naturally irritant, Bhallataka becomes nectar-like when prescribed correctly, treating kapha disorders and promoting intellect. The passage notes that sages like Chyavana attained heaven through such methods, urging those desiring longevity to use Rasayana carefully.
