पूर्वच्छिन्नं यदि वा दारु भवेत्तत्परीक्ष्यं आरम्भे । यद्यारोहेत्तस्मिन्कुमारकः पुत्रपशुदं तत् ॥ ७९-०६ ॥

If there be the wood of any trees already cut down available for the purpose it shall first be examined: if a child gets on it, a person will get cows and children by its use.

english translation

pUrvacchinnaM yadi vA dAru bhavettatparIkSyaM Arambhe । yadyArohettasminkumArakaH putrapazudaM tat ॥ 79-06 ॥

सितकुसुममत्तवारणदध्यक्षतपूर्णकुम्भरत्नानि । मङ्गल्यान्यन्यानि च दृष्ट्वाआरम्भे शुभं ज्ञेयम् ॥ ७९-०७ ॥

If white flowers. a rutting elephant, curdled milk, coloured rice, water pots, gems and the like benefic objects be observed at the time, there will be prosperity.

कर्माङ्गुलं यवाष्टकं उदरऽसक्तं तुषैः परित्यक्तम् । अङ्गुलशतं नृपाणां महती शय्या जयाय कृता ॥ ७९-०८ ॥

The length of 8 grains of barley rice placed close and parallel to one another, is known as the Carpenter’s inch; the length of the king’s cot shall be 100 such digits.

karmAGgulaM yavASTakaM udara'saktaM tuSaiH parityaktam । aGgulazataM nRpANAM mahatI zayyA jayAya kRtA ॥ 79-08 ॥

नवतिः सैव षडूना द्वादशहीना त्रिषट्कहीना च । नृपपुत्रमन्त्रिबलपतिपुरोधसां स्युर्यथासङ्ख्यम् ॥ ७९-०९ ॥

The cots of the first Prince, the Minister, the Commander in Chief and the Priest shall respectively be 90, 84, 78 and 72 digits long.

अर्धं अतो अष्टांशोनं विष्कम्भो विश्वकर्मणा प्रोक्तः । आयामत्र्यंशसमः पादौच्छ्रायः सकुक्ष्य शिराः ॥ ७९-१० ॥

The breadth of the cot shall be 7/16th of the length, according to Viśvakarman; and the height of the legs shall be a third of the length.
