जालान्तरगे भानौ यदणुतरं दर्शनं रजो याति । तद्विन्द्यात्परमाणुं प्रथमं तद्धि प्रमाणानाम् ॥ ५८-०१ ॥

The fine particles moving in the rays of the sun coming into a room through the window opening are known as atoms. Is not the atom the first of all measurements?

english translation

jAlAntarage bhAnau yadaNutaraM darzanaM rajo yAti । tadvindyAtparamANuM prathamaM taddhi pramANAnAm ॥ 58-01 ॥

परमाणुरजो बालाग्र लिक्षयूकं यवो अङ्गुलं चैति । अष्टगुणानि यथोत्तरं अङ्गुलं एकं भवति संख्या ॥ ५८-०२ ॥

Eight atoms make an hair’s end; eight hair’s ends make a nit; eight nits make a louse; eight lice make a barley seed; eight barley seeds make a digit, which is known as a unit of measure.

english translation

paramANurajo bAlAgra likSayUkaM yavo aGgulaM caiti । aSTaguNAni yathottaraM aGgulaM ekaM bhavati saMkhyA ॥ 58-02 ॥

देवागारद्वारस्याष्टाम्शऊनस्य यस्तृतीयो अंशः । तत्पिण्डिकाप्रमाणं प्रतिमा तद्द्विगुणपरिमाणा ॥ ५८-०३ ॥

The height of the pedestal of an idol (pratimā) shall be one-third of seven-eighths of the height of the entrance. The height of the idol shall be twice the height of the pedestal.

devAgAradvArasyASTAmzaUnasya yastRtIyo aMzaH । tatpiNDikApramANaM pratimA taddviguNaparimANA ॥ 58-03 ॥

स्वैरङ्गुलप्रमाणैर्द्वादश वीस्तीर्णम् आयतं च मुखम् । नग्नजिता तु चतुर्दश दैर्घ्येण द्राविडं कथितम् ॥ ५८-०४ ॥

The breadth and length of the face of the image shall each be 12 digits. The sage Nagnajit says that in the Drāviḍa country, the face of the image is 14 digits long.

svairaGgulapramANairdvAdaza vIstIrNam AyataM ca mukham । nagnajitA tu caturdaza dairghyeNa drAviDaM kathitam ॥ 58-04 ॥

नासाललाटचिबुकग्रीवाश्चतुराङ्गुलास्तथा कर्णौ । द्वे अङ्गुले च हनुनी चिबुकं च द्व्यङ्गुलं विततम् ॥ ५८-०५ ॥

The nose, the forehead, the chin, the neck and the ear of the image shall each be 4 digits; the mouth shall be 2 digits; the breadth of the chin shall also be 2 digits.
