यद्येकस्मिन्मासे ग्रहणं रविसोमयोस्तदा क्षितिपाः । स्वबलक्षोभैः संक्षयं आयान्त्यतिशस्त्रकोपश्च ॥ ५-२६ ॥

If there should be both lunar and solar eclipses in one month, princes will suffer both from dissensions among their own army and from wars.

yadyekasminmAse grahaNaM ravisomayostadA kSitipAH । svabalakSobhaiH saMkSayaM AyAntyatizastrakopazca ॥ 5-26 ॥

ग्रस्तावुदितास्तमितौ शारदधान्यावनीश्वरक्षयदौ । सर्वग्रस्तौ दुर्भिक्षमरकदौ पापसन्दृष्टौ ॥ ५-२७ ॥

If the eclipse should occur at rising or setting, the crops of Śarat (October and November) will perish and princes will suffer. In total eclipses if the eclipsed sun or moon should be subject to malefic planetary influence, there will be death and famine in the land.

grastAvuditAstamitau zAradadhAnyAvanIzvarakSayadau । sarvagrastau durbhikSamarakadau pApasandRSTau ॥ 5-27 ॥

अर्धौदितौपरक्तो नैकृतिकान्हन्ति सर्वयज्ञांश्च । अग्न्युपजीविगुणाधिकविप्रऽश्रमिणो युगे अभ्युदितः ॥ ५-२८ ॥

If the sun and moon should begin to be eclipsed when only half risen, deceitful men will suffer as well as sacrificial rites. If they should be eclipsed when in the first section of the firmament, those that live by fire and virtuous Brahmins will suffer as well as men belonging to one of the holy orders.

ardhauditauparakto naikRtikAnhanti sarvayajJAMzca । agnyupajIviguNAdhikavipra'zramiNo yuge abhyuditaH ॥ 5-28 ॥

कर्षक पाखण्डि वणिक्क्षत्रियबलनायकान् द्वितीयांशे । कारुकशूद्रम्लेच्छान्खतृतीयाम्शे समन्त्रिजनान् ॥ ५-२९ ॥

If they should be eclipsed when in the second section of the firmament, agriculturists, heretics, merchants, the Kṣatriyas and commanders of the army will suffer. If when in the third section, artisans, the Śūdras, the Mlecchas and ministers will suffer.

karSaka pAkhaNDi vaNikkSatriyabalanAyakAn dvitIyAMze । kArukazUdramlecchAnkhatRtIyAmze samantrijanAn ॥ 5-29 ॥

मध्याह्ने नरपतिमध्यदेशहा शोभनश्च धान्यार्घः । तृणभुगमात्यान्तःपुरवैश्यघ्नः पञ्चमे खांशे । ५-३० ॥

If when in mid-heaven, the central provinces will suffer, but there will be happiness over the land and the price of food grains will fall. If when in the fifth section, herbivorous animals, ministers and household inmates will suffer as also the Vaiśyas.
