क्षितिकम्पं आहुरेके बृहदन्तर्जलनिवासिसत्त्वकृतम् । भूभारखिन्नदिग्गजविश्रामसमुद्भवं चान्ये ॥ ३२-०१ ॥
Some say that earthquake (bhūkampa) is caused by huge water monsters and some that it is caused by the elephants supporting the Earth, resting for a time from their labour.
english translation
kSitikampaM Ahureke bRhadantarjalanivAsisattvakRtam । bhUbhArakhinnadiggajavizrAmasamudbhavaM cAnye ॥ 32-01 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअनिलो अनिलेन निहतः क्षितौ पतन्सस्वनं करोत्य् अन्ये । के चित्त्वदृष्टकारितं इदं अन्ये प्राहुराचार्याः ॥ ३२-०२ ॥
According to some earthquake is caused by the violent collision of winds and their striking the Earth in consequence, and according to others the cause is some invisible and unknown agency.
english translation
anilo anilena nihataH kSitau patansasvanaM karoty anye । ke cittvadRSTakAritaM idaM anye prAhurAcAryAH ॥ 32-02 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगिरिभिः पुरा सपक्षैर्वसुधा प्रपतद्भिरुत्पद्भिश्च । आकम्पिता पितामहं आहामरसदसि सव्रीडम् ॥ ३२-०३ ॥
Once upon a time, in the days gone by, the Earth, being shaken by the rising and falling of winged mountains, addressed Brahmā (the creator) in the court of Indra, as follows, and with feelings of shame.

giribhiH purA sapakSairvasudhA prapatadbhirutpadbhizca । AkampitA pitAmahaM AhAmarasadasi savrIDam ॥ 32-03 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभगवन्नाम ममएतत्त्वया कृतं यदचलैति तन्न तथा । क्रियते अचलैश्चलद्भिः शक्ताहं नास्य खेदस्य ॥ ३२-०४ ॥
Lord, I was named by You as the Unmoving. This character has now suffered, and I am unable to bear the troubles caused by moving mountains.

bhagavannAma mamaetattvayA kRtaM yadacalaiti tanna tathA । kriyate acalaizcaladbhiH zaktAhaM nAsya khedasya ॥ 32-04 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्याः सगद्गदगिरं किं चित्स्फुरिताधरं विनतं ईषत् । साश्रुविलोचनं आननं आलोक्य पितामहः प्राह ॥ ३२-०५ ॥
Brahmā, perceiving her broken speech, trembling lips, bent head and weeping eyes, spoke as follows.

tasyAH sagadgadagiraM kiM citsphuritAdharaM vinataM ISat । sAzruvilocanaM AnanaM Alokya pitAmahaH prAha ॥ 32-05 ॥
