दिनकरकराभितापादृक्षं अवाप्नोति सुमहतीं पीडाम् । भवति तु पश्चात्शुद्धं कनकं इव हुताशपरितापात् ॥ ३-३६ ॥

That which is scorched by the burning rays of the Sun suffers intense distress; yet afterwards it becomes pure again, like gold refined by the heat of fire.

दिवसकृतः प्रतिसूर्यो जलकृदुदग्दक्षिणे स्थितो अनिलकृत् । उभयस्थः सलिलभयं नृपं उपरि निहन्त्यधो जनहा ॥ ३-३७ ॥

The planets, when subjected to the hot rays of the sun are freed from their impurities just as gold is purified by the action of the fire.

रुधिरनिभो वियत्यवनिपान्तकरो न चिरात् परुषरजोअरुणीकृततनुर्यदि वा दिनकृत् । असितविचित्रनीलपरुषो जनघातकरः खगमृगभैरवस्वररुतैश्च निशाद्युमुखे ॥ ३-३८ ॥

If the halo should be to the north of the sun there will be rain; if to the south there will be wind; if on both sides there will be fear from floods; if above the sun (towards the meridian) then the king, if below it (towards the horizon), then his subjects, will perish.

अमलवपुरवक्रमण्डलः स्फुटविपुलामलदीर्घदीधितिः । अविकृततनुवर्णचिह्नभृज्जगति करोति शिवं दिवाकरः ॥ ३-३९ ॥

If the sun (āditya) should be of blood colour when in mid-heaven, or if he should appear red by a dust storm the reigning prince will die.
