Alternatively, a piece of clean white cloth should be soaked in this blood. When washed with lukewarm water (koṣṇa-vāriṇā), if the cloth remains stained or discolored (vavarṇa), it is due to Pitta; if the stain washes out completely, leaving the cloth clean and white (śuddha), it is pure, uncontaminated blood (śoṇita).
