To determine its nature, food mixed with this discharged blood should be offered to a dog or a crow. If the animal eats the food (bhukte), it is known to be pure life-blood (jīva); if the animal rejects it (abhukte), it is understood to be morbid Pitta (or blood severely contaminated by Pitta) provoked by the medicine.
